Thinking about buying new Halloween and Christmas decorations?

As we come into decorating season with Halloween and Christmas fast approaching, you'll be thinking about new designs for the spooky and sparkly time of the year. Stores across the world are restocking the shelves with new seasonal plastic and lighting products - they've started much earlier this year! Stores have been selling new Christmas decorations since the 1st of October, meaning there will be a high demand for new lights. In 2020, Christmas light sales alone were up by 238% and this is still in the same region at present.

How could we all start to better reuse our decorations this year? Here are three ways we can reuse decorations to stop the creation of new WEEE products;

1. Charity shops - thousands of decorations are donated each year and this promotes the ability to reuse them at a lower price.
2. Handmade decorations - We won't always need new fancy lights to spook or sparkly our homes. Try using materials that you already have in your home to make decorations for either your pumpkins or Christmas trees.
3. Spooky trees - Christmas trees are made by the decorations placed on them, not the branches. Reusing your fairy lights for Halloween and Christmas is an excellent way to have multiple purpose decorations.
